Symptom description

Youngest leaves may show dark, necrotic tips or margins on otherwise dark green tissue. Leaf size is severely stunted.

Made worst by

Sandy soils. Alkaline soils. Soils low in organic matter. High levels of nitrogen. High levels of calcium. Cold wet weather. Periods of drought.

Important for

Stronger plants. Healthier plants. Gives plants more resistance to cold weather. Improves flowering. Improves fruit set. Reduces the number of mis-shapen berries.

Cause description

Boron deficiency (right) B undersupply commonly results from restricted availibility due to high pH or B leaching from sandy soils. Necrotic leaf tips can also be a symptom of calcium deficiency.

YaraVita BORTRAC 150

Strawberry (field grown): 2 applications of 1 l/ha commencing at white bud and repeated 10-14 days later. Also, 2 l/ha applied at regrowth (after harvest). Water rate: 200-500 l/ha. Strawberry (protected): Two applications 0.1 litres per 100 litres water maximum concentration, applied at green bud and repeated 10-14 days later also post-harvest. Water rate: 1000 l/ha maximum.
