Copper Deficiency - Strawberry

Symptom description

First the young, immature leaves show a uniform light-green colour. Later interveinal areas become very light green with veins remaining green. With severe deficiency interveinal areas and veins bleach exept for a broad green border at the leaf margin

Organic soils. Chalky soils. Sandy soils. Reclaimed heathland. High nitrogen applications.

Important for

Component of enzymes. Important role in photosythesis and phenol metabolism of plants. Regulation of destructive superoxide radicals inside cells. Prevention of fungal diseases.

Cause description

Copper deficiency Copper deficient leaf blades contain less than 3 ppm of copper at dry basis. Early symptoms of sulphur, molybdenum, manganese or iron deficiency are similar to the early symptoms of copper deficiency.

Strawberry (field grown): 0.5 l/ha applied early in the season before the start of flowering. Water rate: 200 to 400 l/ha.
