Symptom description

Interveinal chlorosis occurs on older leaves first, but proceeds to younger tissues with ongoing deficiency. Severely affected plants show marginal and interveinal leaf scorch. Growth is moderately stunted.

Made worst by

Sandy soils. Acidic soils. Potassium rich soils. Soils receiving high potash applications. Cold wet periods.

Important for

Improved photosynthesis. Green healthy foliage. Reduced yellowing on older leaves.

Cause description

Magnesium deficiency Normal leaf level is 0.3-0.9% Mg. Deficiencies occur in light, sandy soils with low pH or high K resp. Al content. Cold, wet, cloudy weather may contribute to Mg undersupply. Symptoms of virus yellowing or K deficiency look similar.
