Partnering with Simpsons Malt Limited a leading malting and agricultural merchanting business, Yara UK has achieved a significant milestone in reducing the carbon footprint within the malting barley and distilling wheat supply chains. We're proud to announce our first shipment of low-carbon fertiliser has arrived on farm to a select group of Simpsons Malt's malting barley suppliers, who will be applying the product on crops for harvest later this year.

This collaboration marks a pivotal step towards Simpsons Malt's goal of achieving carbon neutral malting barley and distilling wheat production by 2030. As one of the largest independent malting companies, Simpsons Malt is committed to significantly reducing the malt carbon footprint for their end user customers, which includes some of the world's leading distilling and brewing brands.

This delivery is a key indication of Yara's commitment to providing a low carbon solution within Simpsons Malt's supply chain, which aligns their sustainability objectives for the future.

Dale Turner Head of Value Chain Partnerships for Yara UK says, “We are delighted to have our first low-carbon fertilisers being delivered to farms in the UK. Thanks to a truly collaborative partnership with the Simpsons Malt team, we have taken the first joint steps to achieving a significant positive impact on the supply chain and we look forward to continue the journey.”

Low-carbon fertilisers offer a significant approach to sustainable agriculture by decreasing the environmental footprint when it comes to food production without the need to changing operations, agricultural practices, or the process value chain.
